HC Deb 04 July 1966 vol 731 cc26-7W
Mr. Sandys

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will state approximately the value of British products exported to Rhodesia in the first five months of 1965 and in the corresponding period in 1966; what was the value of earnings obtained by British business from invisible exports, such as insurance, to Rhodesia in the first five months of 1965 and in the corresponding period in 1966; and what has been the additional cost of buying from the United States of America and elsewhere the tobacco, minerals and other products previously obtained from Rhodesia.

Mr. Jay

Exports in the two periods were valued at £13.1 million and £1.7 million; net earnings for services were approximately £3 million in the first period and are not known in the second; any additional cost of buying supplies elsewhere will have been small.
