HC Deb 04 July 1966 vol 731 cc25-6W
Mr. Rowland

asked the Postmaster-General (1) what representations he has received from the international postal authorities or from foreign countries about the omission of the name of the country of origin from British postage stamps since the regular issue of non-definitive and commemorative stamps; and if he will make a statement;

(2) if he will place the name Britain, the country of origin, on British postage stamps.

Mr. Short

British stamps were the first in the world and have always been accepted without the addition of the name of the country printed on them. No representations have been received on this point. But if it was generally thought that it was right to do so I should be prepared to consider it.
