§ Captain Kerbyasked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that the vitamin B concentrated substance niacinamide, which is recommended as a drug for the treatment of schizophrenia in doses of 500 milligrammes, is not available on the British National Formulary for dispensing in tablet form in doses stronger than 50 milligrammes; and whether he will seek discussions with the drug manufacturers with a view to the manufacture of tablets in adequate dosage.
§ Mr. LoughlinI am advised that for its usual use in the treatment of vitamin deficiency, 50 milligram tablets of niacinamide are convenient. There is nothing to prevent a doctor who wants 500 milligram tablets for a special purpose from ordering them specially through a chemist or direct from a manufacturer.
