§ 81. Mr. George Jegerasked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether she will state the number of Colonies administered by the Colonial Office at the end of 1955, 1960 and 1965, and the number of staff employed by the department on those dates.
§ Mrs. WhiteAt the end of 1955 the Colonial Office administered 49 territories110W and employed 1,683 staff. The figures were 44 and 1,727 respectively at the end of 1960 and 33 and 600 respectively at the end of 1965. When the Department of Technical Co-operation was established in 1961 a number of members of the Colonial Office staff were transferred with their work to that Department.
