§ 69. Mr. Pounderasked the Minister of Labour what were the numbers of persons employed in the United Kingdom shipyards in 1965; and how these figures compare with 1964, 1963, 1962, and 1961, respectively.
§ Mr. ThorntonIt is estimated there were 163,000 employees in employment in shipbuilding and ship-repairing in the190W United Kingdom in mid-1965. Corresponding figures for the four preceding mid-years were 156,000 in 1964, 161,000 in 1963, 179,000 in 1962 and 189,000 in 1961. A revised estimate for 1965 will be available in the near future and I will write to the hon. Member to give him the figures.
