§ Mr. Wyattasked the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations if he will specify the nature of the treaty or understanding under which an obligation exists to assist in the defence of 198W Malta, as referred to in Chapter II, paragraph 3, of Part II of the statement on the Defence Estimates.
§ Mr. BottomleyThe British Government and the Government of Malta concluded an Agreement on Mutual Defence and Assistance in 1964. Under Article 2 of that Agreement each Government undertakes to afford to the other assistance for mutual defence and to consult together on the measures to be taken jointly or separately to ensure the fullest co-operation between them for that purpose.
