§ 59. Mr. Dribergasked the President of the Board of Trade, in view of warnings by leading leather tanners of impending increases in the prices of shoes and other leather goods, what steps he is taking to prevent such increases.
§ Mr. DarlingI am watching closely any increases in the prices of shoes and other leather goods which may result from the sharp increase over the past year in world prices of raw hides and skins. I am sure that both the tanners and the manufacturers of finished goods are aware of the need to absorb increased costs wherever possible by improved production methods.
