§ 98. Mr. Maxwellasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he will now introduce legislation to have milk tested for quality and purity on the farm instead of at the distributor's dairy as at present.
§ Mr. HoyI can see no need for this. Contamination of milk can occur at any point in the chain of distribution and the Food and Drugs Act, 1955 (Sections 91, 95 and 96) already gives power to authorised officers of Food and Drugs Authorities and of my Department to sample milk at farm dairies for the purpose of control of milk hygiene and composition. They may also take action where it is appropriate for them to do so.
