§ Mr. K. RobinsonIn 1964, 59 per cent. of the live births in the Stockport County Borough area took place in hospitals. The proportion for the Manchester Hospital Region as a whole was 70 per cent. Fifty-six per cent. and 68 per cent. respectively were in National Health Service Hospitals. A new maternity unit of 120 beds at Stepping Hill Hospital is planned to start next year.
