HC Deb 21 February 1966 vol 725 c40W
Sir K. Joseph

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many of the proposed new geriatric and materity beds in Scotland were projected in earlier plans; and how many have been added by the present Government.

Mr. Ross

In the recently published Review of the Hospital Plan for Scotland the major emphasis was given to geriatrics. When the schemes in the programme have been completed, there will be a net increase of about 2,000 geriatric beds. Of these about 1,250 were projected in earlier plans, 436 are in major schemes mentioned in the Review but not included in earlier plans and 300 arise out of reviews by Regional Boards of their programmes of smaller projects. The Review makes clear that only a limited addition to the maternity hospital programme was possible. Of the 650 new beds to be provided 30 were added in the Review.
