HC Deb 21 February 1966 vol 725 c12W
78. Mr. Heffer

asked the Minister of Health what steps are being taken by his Department to get standardisation in the building of hospitals, especially in the field of industrialised methods of building.

Mr. K. Robinson

All hospital design is now based on standard dimensions, which also govern the design of a number of standard building components now available on a bulk manufacture basis. Seven major system builders are adapting their systems to hospital needs, and so far two of them have been awarded construction contracts. Three complete new hospitals have been deliberately designed to accommodate maximum pre-fabrication, and two of these are at the tender stage.
