HC Deb 21 February 1966 vol 725 c29W
Mr. Costain

asked the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations what is the estimated cost of sending a group of actors to Ghana under the auspices of the British Council.

Mr. Bottomley

The only group of actors sent to Ghana under the auspices of the British Council was the Nottingham Playhouse Company which visited Ghana in 1963, as part of a tour of Ghana, Nigeria and Sierra Leone. On that occasion 16 performances were given in Ghana at a proportionate net cost of £5, 900.

A similar tour of West Africa by the Nottingham Playhouse Company was planned to take place early this year, but, owing to political developments in West Africa, was cancelled.
