§ Mr. G. Campbellasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he will make a statement on the future of the international peace-keeping force in Cyprus after 26th March, and on the provision of finance for it.
§ Mr. PadleyThe future of the United Nations Force in Cyprus and the question of its finances will no doubt be considered by the Security Council before the current mandate of the Force expires on 26th March. In Her Majesty's Government's view, the Force is playing a vital rôle by preventing local incidents from developing into major conflict. We are therefore much concerned about the difficulties which have arisen over the provision of adequate finance for the Force and we are doing all we can to help the United Nations authorities to resolve them.
