HC Deb 09 February 1966 vol 724 cc70-1W
111 and 112. Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the Minister of Transport (1) what short-term and long-term plans have been made for improving transport facilities into and out of Trafford Park Industrial Estate, following the recent discussions attended by the Parliamentary Secretary;

(2) why the suggested Wharf Road improvement on the Trafford Park Industrial Estate has not been carried out, in view of the consultations on this matter at which her Department was officially represented.

Mr. Swingler

Work on the new £1.4 million Route 232, which will link the Estate with M.62 at Lostock Circle, began last August. An improvement of the junction of Barton Dock Road and Park Road, which will cost about £75,000, is expected to start later this month. The new gyratory system at the junction of Trafford Park Road and Trafford Road, which will cost about £530,000 and include a link road between Trafford Park Road and Trafford Wharf Road immediately west of the junction, is planned to start this autumn.

My right hon. Friend has included in her trunk roads programme a scheme for the construction of an overpass to relieve the congestion at the present White City roundabout at the junction of Trafford Park Road with trunk road A.56. This will cost about £700,000.

The improvement of the privately-owned Trafford Wharf Road and its use as a public road were found to be impracticable.
