HC Deb 09 February 1966 vol 724 c66W
69. Mr. Cordle

asked the Minister of Transport whether she will review the speed limits on traffic roads running through the centres of villages and small towns with a view to enforcing a 30 miles per hour speed limit in those areas where the increasing volume of traffic is detrimental to the safety and welfare of children and old people, with special regard to villages or towns incorporating schools.

Mr. John Morris

Road safety factors come first in reviewing speed limits. It would not be practicable to impose a general rule such as the hon. Member has suggested but any specific proposals from local authorities will be most carefully considered.
