HC Deb 09 February 1966 vol 724 cc100-1W
163. Mr. T. G. D. Galbraith

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will state the total amount paid over the last five years by the Government and by local authorities, respectively, for providing institutions of the old folk home type, and geriatric accommodation of the hospital type for elderly people, respectively, in Scotland; and if he will estimate the amounts likely to be paid over the next five years.

Mr. Ross

For the five years ending 31st March, 1965, it is estimated that local authorities' capital expenditure on welfare services, the great bulk of which is on old people's homes, was £2.04 million, and expenditure by hospital boards on geriatric accommodation was £1.41 million. The corresponding provisional forecasts of expenditure in the succeeding five years are £4.15 million and £5.92 million.
