HC Deb 09 February 1966 vol 724 c73W
126. Mr. Wainwright

asked the Minister of Transport if she will give the number of miles of motorways in existence, the number of miles in course of being built, the number of miles on the planning board, and the estimated number of miles that will be completed by 1975.

Mr. Swingler

375½ miles are in use, 126½ miles are under construction and 527¼ miles are at various stages of planning. All this should be completed by the early 1970s, but I cannot at this stage forecast how many additional miles will have been completed by 1975. This depends on the outcome of our plans for the improvement of inter-urban routes during the 1970s.
