HC Deb 09 February 1966 vol 724 c94W
Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Postmaster-General (1) what effect the new scientific improvements installed and to be installed in Aberdeen city head post office will have on the number of employees there; to what extent it will result in redundancy; in which class of employees; and what provision he will make for the redundant employees;

(2) why the new coding system to be installed at Aberdeen city head post office is to be deferred for three years; and if he will expedite its installation.

Mr. Benn

New equipment will save labour but there will be no redundancy. The coding system should be completed next year. Aberdeen will be amongst the first offices to be equipped, probably some two to three years hence, the earliest practicable date.
