§ 101. Mr. Doigasked the Minister of Transport if she will take steps to repeal the provision in section 118(6) of the Road Traffic Act 1960, whereby a vehicle when being used to convey farm workers to and from that work is deemed not to be a public service vehicle, notwithstanding that the workers are carried for hire or reward.
§ Mrs. CastleIt is necessary for farmers to be able to use lorries for carrying workers over rough farm roads. I have considered the recent tragic accident near Dundee which my hon. Friend brought to our attention. The Construction and Use Regulations require that all passengers shall be carried in such a manner that no danger is caused. I have no evidence generally that there is need to strengthen the existing safety provisions.
