HC Deb 09 February 1966 vol 724 c82W
101. Mr. Doig

asked the Minister of Transport if she will take steps to repeal the provision in section 118(6) of the Road Traffic Act 1960, whereby a vehicle when being used to convey farm workers to and from that work is deemed not to be a public service vehicle, notwithstanding that the workers are carried for hire or reward.

Mrs. Castle

It is necessary for farmers to be able to use lorries for carrying workers over rough farm roads. I have considered the recent tragic accident near Dundee which my hon. Friend brought to our attention. The Construction and Use Regulations require that all passengers shall be carried in such a manner that no danger is caused. I have no evidence generally that there is need to strengthen the existing safety provisions.
