HC Deb 09 February 1966 vol 724 c86W
107. Mr. David Steel

asked the Minister of Transport whether she will give a general direction, in the public interest, to British Railways that after uplifting steel bridges carrying disused railway lines they should also demolish any stone piers supporting such bridges.

Mr. John Morris

No. A general direction would not be appropriate. Local authorities have powers under the Town and Country Planning Act, 1962, in relation to the removal of redundant structures and erections.
