Mr. Lubbock

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer, what is the estimated cost to Income Tax and Surtax in 1965–66 of married allowances, wife's earned income allowance, and additional allowances, respectively.

It is estimated that for 1965–66 the excess of the higher personal allowance over the single allowance costs £505 million Income Tax, £6 million Surtax, that the wife's earned income allowance costs £270 million and that the wife's additional set of reduced rates costs £65 million.
