asked the Minister of Transport how many railway passenger and freight services were withdrawn, or curtailed, in each year since 1962 up to the latest convenient date; and if she will publish details of these in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

The number of complete withdrawals of passenger services from lines or stations is, to the end of January:

Reductions in passenger services which do not involve the total closure of a line or a station do not require my right hon. Friend's consent. These and the withdrawal or reduction of freight services are matters for the Railways Board.
