HC Deb 02 February 1966 vol 723 c235W
107. Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Postmaster-General if he will take steps to amend the Wireless Telegraphy Acts so as to stop the sale and use of micro-bug transmitters which intrude into the private conversations of citizens.

Mr. Benn

I am considering whether I should be justified in seeking wider powers to prevent unlicensed use of transmitting apparatus. But this is a complex question which does not concern the Post Office alone and I cannot promise an early decision. In the meantime I have taken steps to improve the safeguards against the improper use of small radio microphones which I do licence, both by an amendment to the licence itself and by stricter procedures in dealing with applications for licences.
