§ Mr. Ness Edwardsasked the Postmaster-General, if he will take powers to authorise the Independent Television Authority to set up its own audience measurement machinery so that information as to the viewership in each region of the country shall be independently obtained and made publicly obtainable.
§ Mr. BennMy right hon. Friend's purpose is, I think, already met by Section 24 of the Television Act, 1964, which specifies as one of their functions audience research by the Authority on the programmes they broadcast. It is, of course, for the Authority to decide what particular forms of audience research to undertake, and how far the results should be published.
