HC Deb 02 February 1966 vol 723 cc234-5W
Sir J. Rodgers

asked the Minister of Transport what information she has regarding proposals to close the line between Hurst Green and Lewes.

Mr. G. Johnson Smith

asked the Minister of Transport what proposals she has received from the British Railways Board to close the line between Hurst Green and Lewes.

Mr. John Morris

I understand that the Railways Board intends to publish soon under Section 54 of the Transport Act, 1962, advance notice of its plans to close to passengers the line from Hurst Green Junction to Eridge in association with its intentions, announced in the Reshaping Report, of withdrawing the passenger services between Tonbridge and Brighton.

If the Board decides to go ahead with these proposals it will first invite my right hon. Friend's agreement to publication under Section 56 of the Act.
