asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what percentage of total Government expenditure is at present spent on defence.

Mr. Diamond

Defence expenditure in the current financial year is estimated at 18.7 per cent. of total central Government expenditure. This is based on the estimates made at the beginning of the year.
