asked the Minister of Transport what progress is being made with the reconstruction of the A.19 road in County Durham.

The diversions at Sheraton and Shotton are now open. Construction of the Wolviston to Sheraton section is progressing satisfactorily. Draft Orders have been published and preparatory work is well in hand for the bypass of Wolviston village and for an improvement at Sheraton crossroads.

Tenders have been invited for the section between Sheraton Hill and Eden Vale.

Preparatory work for other improvements north of Eden Vale is going ahead.
