HC Deb 21 December 1966 vol 738 cc374-5W
Mr. Richard Wainwright

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what he is doing, or contemplates doing, in relation to the recommendations on the state of the arts in Yorkshire expressed in the First Report of the Yorkshire and Humberside Economic Planning Council.

Miss Jennie Lee

The report welcomed a proposal that there should be a Yorkshire Association of the Arts. I under-stand that a decision to set up such an Association, covering at least the East and West Ridings, has now been taken.

The report also declared that more financial asistance for the arts, from central and local government and from private patrons, especially industry, is needed. This is fully in accord with the recommendations of "Partnership in Patronage" which I issued earlier this year and of which I am sending the hon. Member a copy.
