HC Deb 21 December 1966 vol 738 c353W
105. Sir D. Renton

asked the First Secretary of State and Secretary of State for Economic Affairs whether he is aware that the recently published figures of the growth of employment in the Greater London area and the South-Eastern Region from 1951 to 1961 now show that the South-Eastern Study was based on wrong assumptions; what changes of policy will result from this fact; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. Albu

Present policies for the South-East stem from the Government's reappraisal of the 1964 South-East Study. A further review is being carried out by the South-East Economic Planning Council using the latest available data. The differences between the estimates of employment growth in the South-East Study and the figures derived from the 1961 Census of Population are liable to be misunderstood unless careful account is taken of the variations in composition and coverage; but these latest figures are being taken into account by the Planning Council.
