HC Deb 21 December 1966 vol 738 c361W
Mr. Grant

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer why it is not possible to separate the cost to the Revenue of collecting capital gains tax and corporation tax from the cost of collecting other taxes; and, in view of his inability to determine the cost, how he establishes whether the taxes produce a net yield to the Revenue.

Mr. Callaghan

Because work done on them is to a large extent integrated with work on other taxes. There can be no question that the present and prospective yield of these two taxes greatly exceeds the cost of their collection.
