HL Deb 20 December 1966 vol 278 c2066WA
LORD FRASER OF LONSDALE

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the appropriate Minister is considering an application from the authority concerned with the River Ribble to approve a scheme to give the Preston sewage full biological treatment to bring it up to the Royal Commission standard, and whether they have any statement to make.

THE PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY, MINISTRY OF HOUSING AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT (LORD KENNET)

My right honourable friend has recently approved a scheme from Preston Corporation which will improve sewage treatment at their Clifton Marsh Sewage works and produce a better effluent to the Ribble. The effluent will not be up to full Royal Commission standard, but the Corporation have been asked to make provision for further extension to the works if, on experience, the higher standard is shown to be necessary.

House adjourned at eleven minutes past eight o'clock.
