§ Mr. Hamlingasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what steps are taken by his Department to ensure that veterinary certificates from the country of origin on consignments of livestock imported from foreign countries are reliable and valid.
§ Mr. HoyImports of animals to which the Diseases of Animals Act 1950 applies are not permitted from any country unless we are satisfied, having regard among other things to its animal health position and to its legislation and administration for regulating imports and exports of animals and for preventing the introduction and spread of animal disease, that there are sufficient safeguards against the introduction of disease into this country with such imports. But in general we place the same reliance on veterinary certificates from exporting countries as we trust they place on ours.
