However, during the main recruiting season from 1st April to 1st October, 1966, 834 teachers took up their first 131W permanent appointment in maintained primary or secondary schools in Wales. The earliest comparable figure available for the same period in 1958, is 498. I can give no reliable estimate of the corresponding figure for 1970.
