§ Mr. Boardmanasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will introduce legislation to empower the Charity Commissioners to divert to other purposes, as and when the occasion arises, money subscribed for a specific purpose when all claims have been reasonably met.
§ Mr. Roy JenkinsSection 13(1,a,i) of the Charities Act, 1960, empowers the High Court, the Charity Commissioners or the Secretary of State for Education and Science to alter the original purposes of a charitable gift where the original purposes have been as far as possible fulfilled. I am informed that numerous schemes have been made under these powers and under the similar powers which existed before 1960.
