HC Deb 08 December 1966 vol 737 c357W
Mr. Carol Johnson

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food when and for what purpose he recently appointed an advisory committee on matters appertaining to the baking industry; what are the names of the people appointed; whether they are appointed in a personal capacity or as representatives of the firms or groups to which they belong; and if any trade unionist has been appointed.

Mr. Peart

The Bakery Liaison Committee is one of a number of similar Committees which have been set up to maintain close touch between my Department and the trade on food prices during the next few months. The primary function of this Committee is to exchange views on the operation of the early warning arrangements for bread and related price matters. The Committee is informal and it is not intended to be an advisory committee on all matters relating to the industry.

No trade unionist has been appointed for reasons which have been fully explained to the union chiefly concerned.

Members, who are leading experts in the trade, serve in their personal capacities and it would not be appropriate for me to disclose their names without their consent.
