HC Deb 05 December 1966 vol 737 c225W
Mr. Dalyell

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will estimate the level of current public investment in Scotland for any convenient period; and if he will estimate comparable figures for private investment in Scotland, either in approximate percentage terms or in terms of total value.

Mr. Callaghan

Identifiable public investment in Scotland from 1963–64 to 1965–66 was as follows:—

£million
1963–64 1964–65 1965–66
Departments and local authorities 187.7 216.3 238.2
Nationalised Industries 95.7 99.3 105.6
283.4 315.6 343.8
The detailed figures summarised in the Table are set out in Table 57 of the Digest of Scottish Statistics No. 28—October, 1966, which also contains figures for 1960–61 to 1962–63. I regret that comparable figures for private investment are not available, but provisional estimates of capital expenditure by manufacturing establishments in Scotland are £90 million for 1963, £92 million for 1964 and £115 million for 1965 (see Table 58 of the Digest).
