§ 63. Mrs. Joyce Butlerasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will seek powers to ensure that toy safety standards are observed when toys are imported into this country.
§ Mr. Roy JenkinsI share my hon. Friend's concern about this matter, and136W my Department keeps in close touch with toy manufacturers and importers, and with the Hong Kong Government, with a view to ensuring that toys offered for sale comply with the requirements of the appropriate British Standard Code. Many of the requirements of the Code are inappropriate for inclusion in statutory regulations under the Consumer Protection Act, 1961, but regulations dealing with various aspects of the safety of toys are in course of preparation, and I attach urgency to their completition.
