§ Mr. Hornerasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he has yet received a report of the recent 365W accident at Harrogate, Yorkshire, in which Fireman Binns suffered grave injuries while engaged in a live rescue drill; and whether, in view of the earlier loss of life suffered by the London Fire Brigade during similar drills, he will now make regulations requiring fire authorities to use dummies only in rescue drills of this kind.
§ Mr. Roy JenkinsI heard with regret of the accident to Fireman Binns. The Central Fire Brigades Advisory Council have recently had under consideration the question of live rescue drills, including the use of safety apparatus in such drills. I am at present considering what action should be taken in the light of the views expressed by the members of the Council.
