HC Deb 04 August 1966 vol 733 cc153-4W
Mrs. Joyce Butler

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will seek to ban the sale of long-pile fur-fabric materials and garments made with these materials which present a fire hazard to wearers; and if he will take steps to issue appropriate warning notices in respect of the fire dangers from these fabrics.

Mr. Roy Jenkins

I am seeking the cooperation of the manufacturer and importers concerned in eliminating or reducing the fire hazard of a fabric recently mentioned in the Press, and have set in train an investigation into the possible risks presented by these materials.

Mr. Geoffrey Lloyd

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what action he has taken in regard to the imported fur fabric material recently found by the Retail Trading Standards Association to be highly flammable, details of which have been sent to him; and what steps he is taking to ensure that such material is not imported and distributed in this country in the future.

Miss Bacon

I would refer the hon. Member to the statement I made today in reply to a similar Question by my hon. Friend the Member for Wood Green (Mrs. Joyce Butler).
