HC Deb 04 August 1966 vol 733 c158W
50. Mr. Fisher

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he will announce the progress made in the establishment of family planning clinics in Mauritius and the Seychelles, respectively, during the past year.

Mr. Stonehouse

98 Family Planning Clinics are now in operation in Mauritius. They are run by two voluntary organisations with financial assistance and co-ordination from the Government. It is not possible at short notice to say how many of the Clinics were started in the last 12 months, but progress has been marked since Government grants became available last year.

In Seychelles, instruction in locally acceptable family planning methods which started about two years ago continued at Victoria Hospital. Similar instruction is now planned for rural health centres. In addition, the International Planned Parenthood Federation which opened a clinic in Victoria last year has now extended its activities to a second centre in Praslin.
