HC Deb 04 August 1966 vol 733 c177W
Mr. Biffen

asked the Prime Minister how much of the £500 million reduction in the level of demand during the current year contained in his recent proposals arises from measures which will not apply to the development areas.

Mr. Callaghan

I have been asked to reply.

It is not possible to give precise estimates of the effects of the measures in particular areas. But development areas are exempt from the extended controls on less essential building and on office building; and measures such as the building of Government financed factories which will bring new employment and strengthen the economic development of these areas, are being pressed ahead.
