Elliotasked the Minister of Transport if she will arrange for the investigation of the improved safety potential of the new cling rubber type of 123W road vehicle tyre, with a view to making regulations to ensure that, after a specified date, all tyres including commercial tyres, will be made of cling rubber.
§ Mr. SwinglerThe Road Research Laboratory have already investigated the safety properties of tyres using high hysteresis (or "cling") rubber in their treads. Many tyres produced for passenger cars now have such a tread but further developments for commercial tyres has still to take place. It would be premature to consider Regulations requiring the use of such rubber in tyres.
