Rear-Admiral Morgan Giles

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what are the duties of the British Military Adviser to the South-East Asia Treaty Organisation.

Mr. Healey

To provide military advice for the U.K. Member of the S.E.A.T.O. Council of Ministers and for the U.K. Council Representative in Bangkok; to co-operate with the Military Advisers of the other S.E.A.T.O. countries so that the military proceedings of the alliance may be synchronised with the requirements of the S.E.A.T.O. Council of Ministers; and to direct the work of his representative in the Military Planning Office at S.E.A.T.O. Headquarters.
