§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) whether he is aware that his Department are advertising in the national Press for men and women to take up appointments in the probation and after-care sections of his Department at salary scales which for the higher grades are now under review, and, as this is contrary to the Government's wages and salary standstill, whether he will revise these advertisements;
(2) whether he is aware of the advertisements in the national Press for technical officers and surveyors in the architect's and Surveyor's Department of the Metropolitan Police Receiver's office at salary scales ranging from £866 to £1,511, and that these scales are under review; and, as this is contrary to the Government's wage standstill policy, whether he will give instructions for the amendment of these advertisements:
(3) whether he is aware that his Department are advertising in the national Press for wireless technicians at salaries ranging from £820 to £1,104 per annum with an increase of 3½ per cent. from 1st January, 1966 on a reviewed and revised scale of pay which will become operative and retrospective to 1st January, 1965; and, as this is contrary to Government policy, whether he will revise these advertisements.
