HC Deb 03 August 1966 vol 733 cc139-40W
Mr. John Wells

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the estimated cost to the Exchequer to date of sanctions against Rhodesia; and what is the estimated loss in earnings of all sorts to the United Kingdom arising from these sanctions, in so far as this loss can be ascertained.

Mr. Diamond

Costs to the Exchequer amounted at mid-July to somewhat more than £9¼ million.

In the first six months of 1966 British exports to Rhodesia were just over £14 million less than in the same period of 1965. Figures of the total decline in invisible exports are not available.
