HC Deb 03 August 1966 vol 733 c129W
109. Mr. Scott

asked the Postmaster-General when he will make a statement about the future of local sound broadcasting.

Mr. Edward Short

I would refer the hon. Member to my reply of 6th July to my hon. Friend the Member for Faver-sham (Mr. Boston).

Mr. Fisher

asked the Postmaster-General whether in view of the public demand for pop music, he will now take steps to replace the pirate radio stations with licensed local stations operating on a commercial basis.

Mr. Edward Short

The question whether a service of local sound broadcasting should be authorised will be decided on its own merits.

114. Mr. Oakes

asked the Postmaster-General if he will exercise his powers to license local radio broadcasting stations before the Marine, &c., Broadcasting (Offences) Bill comes into operation.

Mr. Edward Short

The question whether a service of local sound broadcasting should be authorised will be decided on its own merits.
