HC Deb 03 August 1966 vol 733 c137W
Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will state the progress made in Scotland up to date in the cultivation under his authority of freshwater fish, and indicate the various species being bred there.

Mr. Ross

My authority is not required for such operations. Salmon and trout are reared for stocking purposes at a number of hatcheries in Scotland and some concerns have plans to rear rainbow trout to larger sizes. My Department gives such advice as it can when requested and is doing research on the factors governing the growth of salmon fry in the hope that the rearing of salmon to the smolt stage may be improved.
