HC Deb 03 August 1966 vol 733 c102W
50. Mr. Hooson

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what are the contributions made by the West German Government towards the cost of maintaining British troops in Germany; and what capital and other equipment has been provided by the West German Government.

Mr. Healey

The Agreement between Her Majesty's Government and the Federal Government for offsetting the foreign exchange expenditure on British Forces in the Federal Republic, signed on 27th July, 1964, and the Protocol to that Agreement signed on 20th July, 1965, set out in full the arrangements at present in force for contributions by the Federal Government to the costs of maintaining British Forces in Germany. As to the second part of the Question, the N.A.T.O. Status of Forces Agreements govern which services are provided by the West German Government to the British Forces. In general these are paid for by us, but Government-owned land and property is made available to British Forces free of charge.
