§ Mr. MellishDirect labour departments made a useful contribution to new construction, principally on housing which accounts for over half of the labour force engaged on new work. In 1965 8.5 per cent. of local authority new houses were built in this way; much the same proportion as in recent years. My right hon. Friend has no further inquiries in view.
