§ 50. Mr. Turtonasked the Secretary of State for Defence what action he authorises for the cancellation of the proxies of the wives of members of the Forces on their return from stations abroad; and whether he informs the wife and the proxy of the cancellation.

MallalieuStanding instructions in all three Services require Commanding Officers to inform the General Register Office when the wife of a Service man who has been living with her husband abroad returns permanently to this country, or for any other reason loses her qualification as a Service voter. The General Register Office informs the Electoral Registration Officer and the question of informing the proxy would be a matter for him. On the question of notifying the wife, I am looking at the Service instructions to see if any improvements are necessary.
